The current President of GITA-North America will review significant accomplishments achieved by the association in 2003 and describe several important ongoing initiatives. Also, she will describe how GIS was used in response to a recent serious hurricane that struck the East Coast of the U.S. in September 2003.

GITA-North America President Karen Levy is currently Information Technology Project Manager for the City of Newport News Waterworks, where she has worked for the past 17 years. Levy is a member on the City Manager's Committee on Changing Technology and Internet Usage. Levy is also currently serving as a Trustee for the Virginia Section of American Waterworks Association (AWWA). Levy has served as president of the Virginia Association of Mapping and Land Information Systems (VAMLIS), a statewide organization that promotes awareness of GIS throughout Virginia. Levy has served on IBM's National Customer Advisory Committee for GIS. Levy chaired the Information Technology Committee for the Virginia Section of American Water Works Association (AWWA).The objective of this committee is to provide a resource for integrating information technology into the water industry in Virginia. Levy has been a participant at several GITA annual conferences and has presented at numerous Executive Management Symposiums. She has been an association member for 13 years.
