概要
The Asia Pacific region has seen rapid adoption of new technologies at a faster pace than the rest of the world. The region is also witnessing major reforms in the utilities industry unparalleled elsewhere. The pace of change and dynamics of industry restructure creates exciting challenges for vendors to push the boundaries of tradition point solutions to new dimensions. Increased demand is being placed upon the domain of geospatial information technology in reaching real-time performance, regulatory reporting capabilities, open system architectures, localisation, co-location management, b2b, and rapid implementation of these increasingly complex systems into forever changing business environments. The new paradigms are almost universal for end users and vendors. In the environment of change and risk management utilities and communication organisations have redefined their core businesses. Similar redefinitions are paralleled in technology, CAD tools evolved to Automated Mapping/Facility Management (AM/FM) then with spatial querying into AM/FM/GIS, and then with enterprise extensibility into Geospatial Resource Management. Geospatial information management is evolving beyond standalone repositories towards live operational data warehouse practices and increasing pressure placed upon enhancing quality of operational geospatial data for more confident strategic decision making. Technological enablement is now delivered by massive scalability, real-time spatial querying, enhanced methods for metadata management of data integrity , and extensibility of these integrity controls coupled with direct data accessibility to all stakeholders using a multitude of thin devices. This paper explores the future with a historical perspective, and argues the paradigm shifts with examples and personal experiences.
